Processing human language for translations and games is more complex than simply parsing regular (that is boolean, connected with "and," "or," "+," "-") expressions, or converting "I" to "you" in a reply.
Context and Meaning
For one thing, text parsers must make sense of words whose meaning varies according to context. In English, for example, there is the "cake batter" and also "the battered wife." Something might help "lighten the load" or "lighten a color." A single word such as "light," depending on context, can be a noun, verb, or adjective, with a host of varying meanings.
A match can "light a barbecue" or "light a fire." And, since "light" can become (if the speaker likes) "light on" when followed by the word "fire," a match can "light something on fire," and the meaning be unchanged. A "light" can "light the room." Or "light" may be an adjective, with a cook deciding "to go light on the sauce."
